My favourite holiday till date is the one I took in
Kerala four years ago. To repeat the clichéd phrase — it is indeed Gods
own country — and there can be no debate about this. I went there with a group
of friends and it was around January, pleasantly cool and sunny. We were awestruck
by the splendours of the land — mountains, forests, the sea and the backwaters
— there wasnt anything that a traveller could possibly miss. The best part
of the trip: staying on a houseboat in the backwaters. Watching night fall, cruising
along a still canal is one memory thats going to stay with me forever. And
being incorrigible foodies that we are, the food there left us even more happy.
We also made time for a short trip to the Puvar Resort, where we stayed in quaint
little cottages and treated ourselves to the famed ayurvedic massages. Ive
never been pampered so royally!
We also went to Periyar and Munnar briefly and then to Thekkady — the spice country at its best. The green plantations, the piquant smells, the rows of spice shops literally floored us. I havent been back since, but somehow, this is one holiday that I never tire of talking about!
