Kobir Behag Indrani Bhattacharya Bhavna; CD Rs 100

Of the vast treasure house of songs, the choice of songs for an album holds a lot of importance. Indrani Bhattacharya sings 10 choicest song from Aaj jyotsnaraate, Boli, amar golap bala, Aamar ange ange ke bajae bashi to Tare deho go aani, among others. Indrani is good as a Rabindrasangeet singer. The production is good along with the music arrangement keeping the essence of Rabindrasangeet intact. The inlay interestingly has a portrait of Indrani by painter Subrata Gangopadhyay.

Music: Vishal Bhardwaj

Lyrics: Gulzar Eros Music; CD Rs 129

It’s unlike any other Bollywood musical score. Just as he infused Punjabi folk in the magical music of Maachis, here Vishal Bhardwaj and Gulzar, dive deep into UP folk and come up with unforgettably authentic songs. Whether it is the title song, sung by Sukhvinder Singh (outstanding) even if he comes after quite a gap) or Beedi (the scintillating Sunidhi Chauhan and Sukhvinder) and Namak (the naturally rustic Rekha Bhardwaj) or Laakad (Rekha again), it leaves you speechless. There are two lovely soft numbers too — saathi re (Shreya Ghoshal, Vishal himself; and don’t miss the erotica) and Jag ja (a lullaby-type; Suresh Wadkar), but what is the clincher especially lyricwise is Naina, sung by Rahat Fateh Ali Khan.

In our issue dated July 21, television star Swetta Keswani, while stating her preferences about ‘My Man’, made a passing remark about “Jaat types” which has offended some. We would like to clarify that that was entirely her view and we do not necessarily subscribe to anyone’s comment or viewpoint. We hold Jaats, like every other community, in the highest esteem, and sincerely apologise if this quote unintentionally caused any hurt.
