Indian shuttlers dominate

Colombo: Indian shuttlers on Thursday held sway to assure themselves of nine medals and would eye all the five individual gold medals at stake in the South Asian Games Badminton Competition.

In men’s singles, Chetan Anand got past Pakistani Zeeshan Umer 21-10, 16-21, 21-7 to set up a title encounter with compatriot Nikhil Kanetkar, a 21-10, 21-12 winner over Pakistan’s Wajid Ali Choudhary.

In the women’s singles semi-finals, Trupti Murgunde put up a sterling performance to tame local favourite Renu Chandrika de Silva 21-11, 21-10, while B.R. Meenakshi humbled Nepal’s Sumina Shreshta 21-9, 21-4.

In women’s doubles final, Aparna Balan and Meenakshi will be up against Jwala Gutta and Sarah Kurien. (PTI)
