Charles Wallace India Trust

The Charles Wallace India Trust provides opportunities for you to study at the postgraduate level, undertake research, gain professional experience in the UK or take up a visiting fellowship. The awards are managed through the British Council and concentrate on the arts and humanities.

Scholarships you can choose from

Fully funded awards

They cover stipend up to one academic year, travel, and tuition fees. The subject areas cover creative arts, including visual arts, music and drama, design and curatorship and architectural conservation.

Short-term awards

These are made to enable young Indian conservators to study and gain practical experience in materials conservation in UK for a period of one year to three months.

One-term visiting fellowships

There are opportunities for two writers-in-residence, an artist-in-residence, a translator-in-residence as well as for fellowships in contemporary Asian studies, contemporary south Asian studies, modern Indian history, social anthropology, journalism and visual art.

Eligibility and guidelines

All applicants should be Indian citizens, domiciled and resident in India, aged between 25 and 38 for most grants, though for visiting fellowships and short research visits the upper age limit is 45 years, have a good working knowledge of English, have completed their first degree/diploma in the area of their specialisation, not have received CWIT grant within the last 5 years, have sought or agreed on placement/admission in an appropriate UK institution.

How to apply

Applications are to be made to the British Council by October 31, 2006. Download or collect the application form for the 2007-08 scholarships from the nearest British Council office.
