Delhi Public School Newtown celebrated Independence Day on August 15 with a beautiful programme put up by the students of classes IV-VIII. The chief guest for the day was Debabrata Bandyopadhyay, ex-director general of police (Intelligence Branch, West Bengal). The pro-vice chairman of the school, Satyam Kanoi, was also present on the occasion.
The programme, conducted by Godavari House, started with the flag hoisting ceremony, followed by the National Anthem. Melodious renditions of popular patriotic songs like Aye Mere Watan Ke Logo, Muktir Mandir Sopan Tole and dance performances to songs like Nanha Munna Rahi Hoon and Des Mera Rangila by the students got a cheering applause from the audience. The students also put up a hilarious skit in Bengali named Aikatan, which left the audience in splits. The programme came to an end with the national anthem sung by the school choir as the audience joined in.
