Crack the code

Are you on a reading Mission? If you aren’t, you may as well get down to it. Children from all over the UK and the British Council library networks in India have started flocking to their local libraries to take part in the special reading challenge called The Reading Mission. On till October, it’s a programme in which you are required to complete reading six books or more by September 11, from a list of books put together by the British Council and become special Reading Agents. The special agent receives a uniquely designed folder which look like metallic attaches. It opens up to reveal its top secret content. It explains to the children who sign up for the challenge how the mission works. They discover three missions that test their powers of observation and their logic with specially devised activities. Parts of the mission are explained in codes, so agents can use the code buster included in their packs. There are two sets of books — one for those between five and seven years and the other for those between eight and 14 years. Once you have read all the books, you will have to write short reviews which will be posted on the Stories from the Web website. You then join an online chat session with the authors, visit the website www.readingmission.org.uk and take part in the activities on the site, be a part of the “I spy” game, solve the mystery and decide whether you can be the super spy. So why wait? Get cracking!
