Mary Ann in joint lead

New Delhi: Bengal’s Mary Ann Gomes thrashed overnight sole leader Soumya Swaminathan of Maharashtra in the 21st edition of the girls’ section of the Parsvnath 35th National Junior Chess Championship on Monday.

Mary Ann emerged as joint leader on six points along with 12-year old Orissa girl Padmini Rout who defeated Women International Master Kruttika Nadig in a game of fluctuating fortunes.

In the boys’ section, Abhijit Gupta needs two draws in the remaining two rounds to become clear champion for the second time. (PTI)
