Kachchi sadak is set with the backdrop of the liquor trade, not attempted before. The film shows the life lived by career-seeking youth in urban India.The insecurities of the youth, social disparities, their ambition and lack of exposure and how all these work to shape their lives. Rahul Singh is one of them. He loses all control over his life trying to mould it his way and has to pay a price for this, too.

Rahul, the lead actor, is also the writer of this small-budget film, Kachchi Sadak. This is the first film, in the history of Indian cinema, to get permission for shooting inside the Dargah Sharif Ajmer.

Rahul Singh has also written a qawwali sung by Adnan Sami — his homage to Khwaja Ajmer Sharif where he spent eight years of his studenthood. Performed by Mithun Chakraborty, this is Mithun’s first ‘special appearance’ in 30 years. This film will also go down as Amrish Puri’s last film. His career, that had begun in Jodhpur with Reshma Aur Shera ends with Kachchi Sadak, also shot in Jodhpur.

The passionate unit and crew also shot for 18 days inside the maximum security jail of India, the Jodhpur Central Jail. Kachchi Sadak also marks actress Madhoo’s return to the screen after a gap of 13 years, after Roja.
