Rat-tat-tat

There are nearly 30 species of rattle snakes found on earth, with several subspecies. They are the most dangerous snakes in the whole of North America. Once they strike, the poison instantly attacks the blood cells of the victim. Their body colour and skin pattern help them blend with the surroundings. Apart from the woods, they are also found in farmlands as they feast on rodents found in the crop field. Rattle snakes are so named for the rattling sound produced by the rattle found at the tip of their tails that is used as a warning device when they feel threatened. However, when it absorbs too much water during the wet season, it isn’t able to make the sound. The rattle comprises a series of hollow beads, which are modified scales from the tail tip. Each time they shed their skin, a new segment of rattle is added.
