‘I think I’m the best host in the television industry’

Q: What in your eyes are the reasons for being chosen as the host for the second season of India’s Best — Zee Cine Star Ki Khoj?

I got this assignment simply because I’m the best in the industry. In other words, I think I’m the best host in the television industry.

Q: Do you have a co-anchor?

Not that I know of. I think it would be better if you ask the people associated with Zee TV. They would have the appropriate answer.

Q: How do you manage to strike the right balance between fiction and non-fiction?

I have to do it because at the end of the day I need a job. Being an actor I have to learn to switch on and off with the roles I’m playing. Not only me, the other technicians too — writers, directors, everyone has to fit into the scenario they are working in. Otherwise we wouldn’t have chosen the specific profession we are in.

Q: What do you like the most? Working in serials or non-fiction shows?

Both have their plus points. While hosting a show, your true personality comes across. On the other hand while working in a fiction drama one has to portray a character. You have to adapt your personality according to the need of that particular character. Both have their own challenges.

Q: What about films and serials? Which one do you enjoy more?

I don’t understand why people go on asking me about this. I’m a thorough professional and believe in doing the jobs assigned to me wholeheartedly. I wouldn’t commit to anyone if I feel I can’t fit into a particular job. Both are completely different mediums and I am loyal to both of them.

Q: You have also anchored Indial Idol. Do you really feel that the industry accepts the winners of reality shows?

Yes, they certainly do. See Abhijit (Sawant). He is earning in crores and has signed many films after winning the title of Indian Idol. It’s the same story for the other participants also. They are also signing assignments with different filmmakers.

Q: Will there be another Indian Idol? And would you be hosting the show?

I would definitely love to host it. But it’s up to Sony TV to decide whether they would run the show again.

Q: How much are you enjoying working with Ravi Chopra in Viraasat? You have also done a film Baghban with him.

He is a great man to work with. I’m enjoying my role in Viraasat. Playing a negative character is a challenge in itself and I’m glad that I’m doing justice to my character. People love it. And that’s what counts for me the most.

Q: What are your upcoming projects?

At the moment, I’m just concentrating on my assignments with Zee and Star. Offers are coming to me, but I would decide on them latter.
