Pride of Mumbai: The Gateway of India

This October, during the Puja vacations, we, the students of Loreto College, went on a 10-day trip to Mumbai and Goa. In Mumbai we visited Kamala Nehru Park, the Hanging Gardens, Juhu beach, Prince of Wales Museum, Gateway of India and the Elephanta caves. In Goa we visited the Bom Jesus Church, which is famous because it housed the preserved body of St Francis Xavier. We went to the Dona Paula beach where the girls as well as the teachers had a lot of fun taking motor scooter rides. The Anjuna and Vagator beaches were beautiful too with waves splashing across the boulders. The Anjuna beach is popular among tourists for its local market set up by the tribals from Karnataka. The girls had fun shopping at Panjim in Goa and Linking Road in Mumbai.

Dance, baby, dance

On September 12 a dance workshop was organised in our school with the help of a reputed dance academy. A team of experts headed by their master conducted the workshop. First, he gave a talk on how to inculcate the values of dancing into young minds. He explained the origin of the Western hip-hop form and how it has evolved from more traditional forms. Then his troupe taught the participating students of classes VI and VII the steps of various dance forms. We look forward to more such events in our school.

Nagaon
Farewell, dear alma mater

On October 13, 2006, the students of Class X were given a farewell party by the school. A parent-teacher meeting had also been organised on that day. Our principal, Rev. Father Sebastian, offered us some suggestions on how to tackle the upcoming board exams. The parents thanked the school for taking good care of their children for so many years. While some students expressed their feelings with a song, others gave a speech thanking their teachers. It was a treat to watch our principal strumming a guitar and singing for his pupils.
