No. As a secular and democratic nation, Britain shouldn’t interfere in the religious affairs of any sect living within its territory unless it endangers internal peace and security.

Nanda Murthy

Durgapur

Yes, the British government has taken the right step. In the 21st century, an outdated and regressive practice such as wearing a veil should be banned.

Ima Sarkar

Calcutta

No. Wearing a veil is nothing but a simple protective measure for Muslim women. No government can prevent them from exercising that right.

Dr Muqtada Ansari

Howrah

No. Wearing a veil is a custom and a tradition for Muslim women and the British government has no right to interfere in that.

Mehak Gupta

Class XII, Calcutta

No. This is a sensitive issue and the British government’s unnecessary interference might hurt religious sentiments, which might lead to the disruption of law and order.

Saptarshi Das

Rabindra Bharati University
