The body of a Calcutta Police constable was found under the Lockgate flyover in Chitpur on Friday morning.

Gautam Dey was attached to Karaya police station and used to stay with his family at the Cossipore police quarters

Damayanti Sen, deputy commissioner (north), said local residents spotted Dey lying unconscious under the flyover. He was taken to RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police suspect Gautam was knocked down by a vehicle.

“The body bore no injuries. The cause of death will be known after we receive the post-mortem report. Around Rs 3,000 was found in his pocket,” Sen said.

Gautam left home around 6 pm on Thursday. He had taken leave from work for 10 days.
