Educators for life skills

Jamshedpur, Nov. 3: As part of the peer educator training programme conducted by YMCA, Jamshedpur, in association with Calcutta Samaritans, over 80 students from 15 schools across the city would take on the role of educators on the school premises from next week.

This programme would enable city students learn more on responsible sexual behaviour and various other life skills and sexual diseases. A similar session was today conducted at the Centre for Excellence.

“YMCA, Jamshedpur has introduced ‘Family health and life skills education’ in several schools of the city since 2005, and this session is the first training programme for the current year,” said Priti Lucas, the programme co-ordinator of YMCA, Jamshedpur. Once through with the training, these students would return to their respective schools and train the fellow students. “Our basic method is peer lead approach. Therefore, it is only through various in-house chains that we would be able to reach out to each and every child,” added Priti.

To be held for two consecutive days, students would get training on topics like communication skills, sexually transmitted diseases, HIV/AIDS, teenage pregnancy, adolescence and peer pressure during the session.
