Jamshedpur, Nov. 3: The district administration today signed an agreement with MSV International Inc, Haryana, for proper disposal and use of solid waste, that has been left to pile up in East Singhbhum for decades.
According to the agreement, the Haryana-based company would draft a detailed project report (DPR) on the proper use of solid waste in three months’ time.
The DPR would cover all aspects of managing solid waste, including non-degradable ones. It would also explore the scope of manufacturing manure and generating electricity from it.
Deputy commissioner (DC), Nitin Madan Kulkarni said the company would spell out the new techniques of waste management in coming days. “There has been unprecedented increase of population in Jamshedpur. New residential colonies and apartments have come up. All these factors have led to an increase in the amount of waste,” Kulkarni said.
He also said the company would chart out a methodology for proper waste management, too. “There will be proper use of solid waste from now. The administration is committed to providing a pollution-free environment to people. And the agreement with the company aims at cleaning the environment and protecting lives,” the DC said.
Deputy director of MSV International Inc (Project), S.N. Sharma, who signed the agreement on behalf of the company, said the DPR would be tabulated shortly. “Soon, a district survey will be conducted to take stock of the situation. After assessing the situation, the company will chart out a DPR and submit it to the administration,” Sharma said. He also added that the report would include all aspects of waste management.
Special officer of Mango Notified Area Committee (MNAC), J.P. Yadav emphasised that this was probably the “right time” to start thinking and acting on such lines. Otherwise, he added, the issue would create problems in future.
