Depressed teenager commits suicide

Jamshedpur, Nov. 3: A teen-aged girl committed suicide by hanging herself in the out-house of bungalow No. 11 on Bagmati Road under Bistupur police station this morning.

Identified as Santoshi Chhetri alias Soniya, this young girl worked as a domestic help in homes. Her body was recovered from a room, the door of which was bolted from inside.

In a suicide note, addressed to her parents, the decea sed mentioned she was extremely frustrated with life. She asked her parents not to be ashamed of her act, as she was not involved in any affair. She also sketched a human head in her letter. The police have sent the body to MGM for post-mortem.

Bhim Singh Chhetri, the father of the deceased girl, said he was clueless about why his daughter committed suicide. “Soniya would work in four to five houses as domestic help. She had gone to work like she would every morning. But no one knew when she returned and committed suicide,” he said.

Chhetri said when one of the rooms of the out-house was found bolted from inside, his wife, who worked in the bungalow, informed him and they knocked and then broke down the door. They found their daughter hanging from the ceiling fan.

B.B. Tirkey, inspector, Bistupur police station said this was a case of suicide. He added the post-mortem report would clarify whether she had planned the suicide beforehand.

“There is no apparent reason behind the suicide. We are awaiting the post-mortem report to find out the exact cause,” he said .
