Aircraft display to woo youths

Ranchi, Nov. 5: An air show by the Indian Air Force (IAF) promises to open up new avenues in the state capital.

As part of the awareness campaign launched by the IAF, the show will be the first of its kind in Ranchi.

Sources said the tentative date for the air show has been fixed on November 30 or December 1. But officially the date has not been finalised yet. The entire arrangements will be made by the IAF base in Shillong.

Senior officials posted at the Air Force headquarters in Delhi said the prime objective behind the air show is to generate awareness among the common people and attract the youths towards the Indian Air Force.

Nine Surya Kiran aircraft will take part in the aerobatics show. The air force officials said Surya Kiran was a “fantastic” trainer aircraft and seeing performing feats will be a unique experience of its kind. The IAF has so far staged several air shows but this time, the pilots will be displaying their aerobatics skills live. So far, the city had witnessed only aeronautic displays. Wing Commander Sudipto Ghosh would coordinate the show.

Though the army and air force base at the airport feigned ignorance about the show, senior officials at the air traffic control confirmed that Ghosh has already spoken to them a couple of days back and informed that he would be coming here soon to make necessary arrangements.

“He had called us from Shillong and informed us about the air show. We are fully-prepared to give him the necessary assistance,” said a top official at the air traffic control.

Senior division Air Wing NCC commandant Wing Commander R.Y. Pingle said the air show would be held on November 30 or December 1.
