Medical city in Brambay on cards

Ranchi, Nov. 5: State-of-the-art hospitals, nursing institute, residential hotels, refreshment centres, shopping malls and gardens — all under one roof.

Welcome to Jharkhand’s first proposed medical city at Brambay near Ranchi.

The state health department has prepared a blueprint to give shape to the project, which is expected to cost over Rs 2,000 crore. The government has acquired over 100 acres for the project and a final shape is being given to the global tenders that would be floated inviting bids from private parties.

A public-private partnership will give shape to the project, under which the government will provide the land and private parties will have to bring in the investments required to establish and manage the hospitals and other facilities.

“The state government will also provide the basic amenities, such as roads, and uninterrupted water and power supply,” said a source in the health ministry.

The medical city would consist of a couple of super-speciality hospitals, medical colleges and nursing institutes. “There will also be hotels and restaurants, where family members accompanying the patients can stay and eat,” the official said.

The state government had proposed the idea of the medical city to investors, particularly those who are reportedly interested in the medical sector, during a recent meeting.

“The concept of medical city is becoming increasing popular in our country as patients and their relatives get all facilities under one roof. Both, patients and their relatives, can stay on the same campus till the patients recover,” a senior health ministry official said.

The department is also planning a similar project at Musaboni in East Singhbhum, though it is now said to be at a nascent stage.

“The Musaboni project will be planned only after the Brambay project is successfully implemented. The department has set a deadline of two years for the Brambay medical city to be completed,” added another official.
