Nod soon for facelift plans

Ranchi, Nov. 5: The city development plans of Ranchi and Dhanbad are likely to be finalised before the state celebrates its sixth foundation day, on November 15.

The detailed project reports of these cities are ready and are pending with the chief minister for approval, said sources in the government.

The two urban hubs are to be developed under the Jawahar Lal Nehru Urban Renewal Mission. The detailed project report for Jamshedpur, another city scheduled to get the facelift, is not ready, said the sources.

Sources said the Jamshedpur proposal became a victim of the tug-of-war between former chief minister Arjun Munda and his urban development minister Raghuvar Das. The detailed project reports of Ranchi and Dhanbad, too, were prepared long ago but were pending approval of the previous chief minister, who returned the files thrice with queries. After Madhu Koda became the chief minister, the urban development department is hoping to get approval for the plans.

Sources said the files were put up before the chief minister last week. He was requested to fix a date for the meeting, where a decision could be taken. But Koda is said to have replied that he cannot call a meeting in the absence of urban development minister Harinarayan Rai, who is in London. Rai is expected to return on November 10.

However, Koda is learnt to have said that the matter should be settled before the foundation day celebrations. He also enquired about the status of the detailed project report of Jamshedpur.

Urban development secretary R.K. Shrivastava refused to divulge details of the plans for Ranchi and Dhanbad, and added that the proposals should be first discussed with the chief minister.

Last Tuesday, Rai had said he would talk to the chief minister for the approval of the projects.
