Bakre beats Surya to title

Calcutta: Tejas Bakre won the Poona Club Knockout Rapid Chess meet on Sunday, beating Surya Sekhar Ganguly by a 1.5-0.5 margin.

According to information received from organisers Chess Players Association of India, the first of the two-game final ended in a draw after 15 moves. Surya Sekhar had Game II in his control initially, but committed a mistake on the 36th move.

Meanwhile, the CPAI-Chess Academies Programme started on Sunday with the MoUs signed between the players’ body and five academies. Swathi Ghate was elected as the new CPAI secretary.
