East, North want written assurance

Calcutta/Guwahati: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has demanded foolproof security from the Assam Cricket Association (ACA) for the ongoing Duleep Trophy match following the blasts in Guwahati on Sunday.

According to Saradindu Pal, the Cricket Association of Bengal joint secretary who is also the convenor of East Zone, BCCI joint secretary M.P. Pandove spoke to Match Referee Rakesh Yadav and has demanded a “written security assurance” from the ACA. “Only after the assurance comes through will the teams take the field tomorrow,” Pal said.

Pal will also take the first flight out of the city and reach Guwahati Monday.

A security review meeting attended by police, officials of the team management and ACA decided to have a thorough check of the venue Monday morning before the start of the third day’s play.

Sources said Paltan Bazar OC, under whose jurisdiction the hotel and stadium falls, and a DSP (Pan Bazar Division) were among those present. ACA secretary Bikash Baruah also asked for a formal written assurance from the police before the start of play Monday.
