Carnatic melodies
Rasikhapriya celebrates its 14th anniversary with a festival of Carnatic classical music. An exemplary effort made possible solely due to the initiative of S. Kannan, it offers a rare experience of its kind to lovers of classical music in the city. A five-day event, it commences this evening at 6.10 pm with an invocation by K. Srividya. S. Ramadorai, CEO & MD, Tata Consultancy Services, will inaugurate the festival, presided over by N. Krishnamurthi, former chief secretary, government of West Bengal. The highlight of inaugural day’s programme is a duet violin recital (at 6.30 pm) by brothers Ganesh and Kumaresh. In the three decades of their musical career, this young duo have already created their distinctive expression of music, with an international idiom that cuts across regional and cultural boundaries. This evening, they will be accompanied by Patri Satishkumar (mridangam) and B. Sreesundarkumar (kanjira).
