Saina, Srujan in last 16

New Delhi: Saina Nehwal and Srujan Nandaluri entered the girl’s and boy’s pre-quarter finals, respectively, at the World Junior badminton meet in Incheon on Tuesday.

The world No. 32 produced a clinical 21-8, 21-7 win over Stephanie Shalini Sukumaran of Malaysia.

However, Arundhati Pantawane bowed out 14-21 21-18 19-21 to Buranaprasertsuk of Thailand.

In the boy’s singles, Nandaluri beat Tang Fai of Macau 14-21, 21-18, 22-20. He next faces top seed Kenichi Tago of Japan.

Akshay Diwalkar lost to Ji Hoon Hong of South Korea 9-21, 10-21, while Jishnu Sanyal went down to Tommy Sugiarto of Indonesia19-21, 13-21. Ratikanta Saha was outclassed by Fang Yang Lim of Malaysia 11-21, 13-21.

Sanyal and Diwalkar, however, reached the doubles third round defeating Russian duo Gordej Kosenko and Evgeny Klimkovian 21-19, 20-22, 21-19.
