Vested interest

Q: How did it you land up on the Zee Cinestars Ki Khoj show?

Very simple. The channel approached me and since I like the concept I took it up.

Q: Why did you choose this particular show especially when there are so many other channels and with proven track records like Indian Idol?

My father [Mahesh Bhatt] and I are always known to spot and utilise new talent. When we cast John Abraham in Jism, I was told that this guy is a model and will not do well as an actor. We have proven them wrong. The same goes for Onjolie Nair (Holiday) who made salsa the ‘in’ thing in the country.

We are always hungry for new talent and this I thought was the best platform for our search.

Q: Would you be giving a chance to some of the contestants in any of your films?

Of course! I am just so eagerly awaiting the results already.

Q: Would the contestants be groomed under your expertise?

Yes. I am looking at styling them, grooming them, teaching them the finer nuances of being in this profession.

Q: In the sea of talent, how easy or difficult is it to spot a talented artiste?

To be honest, any performance speaks for itself. Also, with such talented and experienced co-judges, my job is simpler since I can discuss and then make up my mind about a particular contestant.

Q: Coming to your co-judges, what do you have to say about Madhur Bhandarkar and Anupam Kher?

I have known Anupam for years and so there is a certain comfort level. Madhur is very talented and everyone is aware of the same. I guess we will be a good team.

Q: How different is the show from its previous season?

I was not a part of it then and hence no comments.
