Bolpur art bust

Santiniketan, Nov. 11: Visva-Bharati today suspended Sangeet Bhavan clerk Sumanta Pal.

Pal, now out on bail, was arrested on October 18 in connection with the Bolpur art bust. He owns several art galleries from where paintings without papers for authorisation were found. Registrar S.K. Sarkar said it took this long to suspend Pal as “police informed us yesterday that he spent over 48 hours in custody”.

Infocom quiz

Durgapur: Infocom Quizzit, presented by Cognizant in association with the International Group, was held at the BC Roy Engineering College here on Saturday. Gagan, Shankar and Anup won the top three places from a field of over 150 students.

Literacy CD

Calcutta: State CPM secretary Biman Bose unveiled a Bengali-learning CD for adults on Saturday. It has been developed jointly by the Institute of Engineering and Management and Tata Consultancy Services.

Assault police

Raiganj: Constables Mrinal Kanti Bhowmik and Indrajit Chowdhury have been arrested. They were accused of assaulting two journalists.

Ulfa arrest

Cooch Behar: Ulfa leader Nripesh Bhakat was picked up from a bazaar at Baxirhat in Assam’s Dhubri district on Friday midnight. Acting on a tip-off, a Bengal team went to the neighbouring state to get him.
