Primates are a group of intelligent mammals — including humans — that share many common traits. Apart from the obvious similarities, primates also share similar trends in the way they have evolved.

Over millions of years, primates have slowly developed larger braincases (skulls) and more complicated brains, flatter faces with eyes placed in front as well as more flexible hands and feet. Most primates have five fingers, flat fingernails, opposable thumbs and big toes.

Non-human primates are found in Central and South America, Africa and Asia. Primates occupy a wide range of habitats though most of the 235 primate species live in warm tropical climates and depend on forests for their survival.
