Kahin Door Jab Din Dhal jaye... Remembering Hrishikesh Mukherjee
SaReGaMa;
4-CD Commemorative Tribute Edition (1922-2006);
Rs 900

In a beautiful black cover pack, the size of a coffeetable book, and in fact a splendidly printed booklet of that type inside, this special edition is as exciting to hold as to listen to. The four CDs containing 18, 15, 16 and 15 songs respectively, have most of those songs that made Hrishikesh Mukherjee films a double treat to watch. Just cast a random eye at CD1: Sab kuchh seekha hum ne (Anari), Itna na mujhse tu pyaar badha (Chhaya), Tum aaj mere sang hans lo (Aashiq), Tera mera pyaar amar (Asli Naqli) and the delight of the first CD, Yehi hai woh saanjh aur savera (Saanjh Aur Savera)! Yes, it is.

The idea of placing the songs from the same film together really works. Like, CD2 has Kuchh dil ne kaha, Ya dil ki suno and Dheere dheere machal (all three Anupama), one after the other and likewise the three each from Ashirwad or Anand, for example.

Abhimaan scores with four in a row in CD3 followed by three each from Namak Haraam and Mili. And then you have CD4 which again has a four-in-a-row GolMaal with the lilting Lata’s Saawan ke jhoole pade, the only one from Jurmana (spelt as Jurmanai). Did you say, Duniya rang birangi (Rang Birangi)? You said it.
