Gizmo scare
Your cover story Electronic storm in a teacup? (December 25) calls for serious thinking on new-age gadgets. If mobiles and laptops are going to cause cancer in the long run, why is man so lovingly embracing them? Its clear that in todays world, we cant do without our gizmos. Perhaps the only way out is for scientists to come up with something that will cancel the effects of electromagnetic radiation. Only then will the momentum of increasing concern on the issue reach a justifiable climax.

Useful tips
KnowHow features some good articles on health. Please give us some useful stories on kids health, especially on how to take care of infants. In our society, when a child is born, there is no dearth of advice from the Mrs-know-it-alls. A young mother often finds herself inundated with tips and doesnt know what is best for her child. Of course, traditional knowledge has proved to be effective in many cases, but there are instances when grandmothers, too, go wrong. Articles debunking some of the popular myths in child rearing would be of great help.

New hope
Cochlear implant seems almost like a miracle (Sounds of Joy, December 25). However, the total cost of the surgery makes it prohibitive for many middle class families. I hope that researchers will come up with a cheaper option soon so that more and more children suffering from hearing impairment can benefit from this new technology. It was also quite disappointing to note that that the treatment is yet to gain momentum in Calcutta. This can be corrected if the doctors concerned organise camps in the city to spread awareness among parents and medical practitioners.
