I passed my HS with 62 per cent marks overall. I want to study aerospace engineering, but being from a disadvantaged background, I will not be able to afford very high fees. I want to know about foreign institutes that have low fees and offer courses in English. Is Italy a good and affordable choice? Please tell me about the application process as well.

Most Indian students who head abroad for studies approach
different banks for loans and the banks nowadays are happy
to comply with these requests. Once you get admission in
a good university or college abroad, funding is not a big
issue. Therefore, I suggest you stop looking for institutes
only on the basis of the fees. And, anyway, you need to
know Italian reasonably well if you want to study in Italy.
However, given your constraints, you can try the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore, which offers a degree in aerospace engineering for around S$6,720 per annum (1S$ = Rs 28.49). The same course will cost $6,000 at a US state university and around $20,000 at a private university in the US. The average course fee per annum in the UK is approximately £8,000. In Canada, it may vary between 4,000 to 13,000 Canadian dollars depending upon the university you choose (1 Canadian dollar = Rs 39.34). In Australia, the annual course fee may hover around 9,000 Australian dollars or more (1 Australian dollar = Rs 34.09). Please consider all rates to be indicative only.
For NTU in Singapore, you will need to appear for the entrance exam that will be held in India in April 2007. The papers will be on English, mathematics, and physics. For details, please visit www.ntu.edu.sg.
One can also choose to head for an affordable destination like Canada where Carleton University, Concordia University (Montreal), Ryerson University and the University of Toronto offer a degree in aerospace engineering; however, one needs to have at least 70 per cent marks in Class XII to try for Canadian universities.
