‘My versatility would have become known by this number’

Madhushree’s sexy item number in Guru, picturised on Malika Sherawat has been deleted totally from the film. So is she feeling bad or offended about it? “I’m not able to express my feelings. Maybe the length of the film was too much, so Maniji omitted the song. He is the right judge,” she explains.

“It was a wonderful number. I really was awed by this song. For me it was of a different genre. My versatility would have become known by this number, I’m feeling bad on hearing this. Anyway, I’ve done another item number, Thaiya-Thaiya which I got, after Champak Jain had heard this number from Guru!” gushes Madhushree, enthused once again.

Though we have so many Bengali singers in Bollywood and they are also doing really well, how comfortable is Madhushree singing in Hindi? “I’m a Bengali but I’m more fluent in Hindi. I like the language very much. You should know your job well. One thing is for sure, if you know classical music it becomes easy for you to catch the sur and the taal. Nowadays melodies are lost in the pseudo-aristocrat environment, but I’m confident enough that as time passes, audiences will develop a liking for melody again,” she says.

Madhushree is a brilliant singer who entered Bollywood with Moksha, and ever since there has been no looking back. Not just Bollywood she has Tamil, Telugu and Kannada movies as well. Though in the ‘Rahman camp’, she has worked with H. Jairaj, Kartik Raja and other big names, too.
