‘Lesson’ for head of school

Lucknow, Feb. 5 : A principal, allegedly running a sex racket in her school, got a taste of “instant justice” today, courtesy the Shiv Sena.

Twentty Sainiks barged into Cosmopolitan School in Moradabad and beat up Sabina Khatoon after smearing her face with black paint. They also stormed into manager Ganpat Singh’s room, dragged him out and thrashed him for harassing a teacher.

Police have arrested 11 of the Sainiks, whose blows left Khatoon unconscious. They are interrogating Puja Verma, the teacher who had accused the principal of throwing her out of the school for refusing to meet the 62-year-old manager in his room.

Boy rescued

Katni (PTI): Almost 12 hours after falling into a 56-foot-deep borewell and getting lodged at a depth of 20 feet, a three-year-old boy was rescued unhurt at Goreshwar village on Monday. Amit Kushwah was rescued by digging a parallel pit and connecting it to the well through a tunnel.

Fire deaths

Srinagar (PTI): A senior army officer and his nine-year-old daughter died when their house caught fire in Leh on Sunday night. While Lt Col R.K. Chaudhary of 14 Corps and his daughter Anoushika were charred to death, his wife and younger daughter were saved.

‘Rapist’ MLA

Akola (PTI): A former MLA in Akola, Maharashtra, has been arrested on the charge of raping a woman who has been deserted by her husband. The woman said she had an intimate relationship with Anand Tarchand More after he agreed to marry her. She approached police when he backed out.

Spanish fast

Dehra Dun (PTI): A Spanish football coach, who went on hunger strike 20 days ago in protest against the taking away of a land he had bought for building a soccer stadium in Hardwar, has been taken into custody. District authorities said Antonio C. Padilla did not have the permission to buy the land.
