Trunk tale

Paying homage to ancestors is not just a human trait. Scientists recently discovered that elephants, like human beings, mourn the death of their family members! When they observed elephants at the Amboseli National Park, Kenya, they found that elephants had a tendency to visit the area where an animal belonging to their group had died.

These elephants were seen visiting the site for days on end, caressing the body of the dead elephant and sometimes even crying.

On the other hand, in New York’s Bronx Zoo, scientists observed that elephants are capable of recognising their own reflection!

Does it remind you of little babies trying to recognise themselves in the mirror? Researchers state that this ability to recognise oneself could be because of the fact that they are as intelligent as human beings. Interesting, isn’t it?
