Q: I
am in Plus Two and want to study microbiology. However,
I dont have maths in Plus Two. Will that be a problem?
What are the prospects of microbiology in India?
Abhishek Biswal
A: To study microbiology, mathematics is not necessary. You must have physics, chemistry and biology in Plus Two. Microbiology is a very promising subject and its prospect is good. However, it will be wise to study the basic sciences like botany and zoology at the undergraduate level and then study microbiology for masters.
Q: I am a student of Plus Two with a combination of physics, chemistry and biology. I am interested in pursuing a course in veterinary science. What are the prospects?
Sudhir Yadav
A: Veterinary science has immense prospects and offers ample opportunities. To be a good vet, you must be genuinely fond of animals. Vets are responsible for the diagnosis of diseases in animals. You can study veterinary science in Bidhan Chandra Krishi Viswavidyalaya, Kalyani and College of Veterinary Sciences, Tirupati. For more information log on to www.keralaeducation.com (animalworld).

Q: At
present, I am doing my BCom. I am planning to go for a company
secretaryship course. Is it a good idea? How should I go
about it?
Amiliya Purkait
A: Company
secretaryship offers a good career opportunity for commerce
students. It is possible to do a foundation course after
10+2, and then go for the foundation course, run by the
Institute of Company Secretaries. Students are admitted
throughout the year and exams are held twice a year. Postal
coaching is necessary. Also, students can complete their
graduation and then pursue the company secretaryship course.
However, they will be required to take postal coaching in
those subjects which are part of the foundation course but
had not been covered in their graduation course. For details,
you can always look up www.icsi.edu.
