Beighton Cup from today

Reigning champions Punjab & Sind Bank (PSB), runners-up BSF are among 10 outstation and 15 local teams which will vie for top honours in the Indian Oil Beighton Cup hockey tournament beginning on Tuesday.

The 112th edition of the meet carries prize money of Rs 1,80,000. The winning team will be richer by Rs 1 lakh, while the runners-up will earn Rs 50,000. There will also be individual prizes for the best players in different positions.

The preliminary stage will be played on knockout basis, with four teams joining four seeded teams (PSB, BSF, Indian Airlines and Indian Oil) in the second stage. The semis will be held on April 9 and the final on April 10. DD Sports will telecast live the last two days’ action.

School cricket

Arijeet Banerjee’s allround show (112 and 3/25) helped Calcutta Boys’ register a 151-run win over St Joseph’s in the SLOBA inter-school meet on Monday.

Category ‘B’ (U-16): Calcutta Boys’ School 277/5 (Arijeet Banerjee 112). St Joseph’s College 126 (Arijeet Banerjee 3/25, Satrajit Das 3/17). Calcutta Boys’ School won by 151 runs.
