Well, the art of hat making is so called because in ancient times the most beautiful and elegant hats and head-dresses were made in Milan, Italy. An inhabitant of the city of Milan is called a Milaner, and although the term is spelt differently today, a hat maker in any part of the world is still referred to as a ‘milliner’.
