Upgrade parleys
B>n Higher education minister Sudarshan Roy Choudhury will discuss the upgrade of Bengal Engineering and Science University (Besu) with the teachers’ union on April 30. In a letter to chief secretary Amit Kiran Deb, the Union ministry of human resources development had asked the state government to hand over Besu as a precondition for the upgrade.
Wildlife net
B>n Four people were arrested for selling paintbrushes made of mongoose hair in Chandni Chowk on Thursday. The raid was conducted by the state forest department’s wildlife wing.
Flight missed
B>n Six passengers to New Delhi by an Air Deccan evening flight were not allowed to board the aircraft as they were late by five minutes. The passengers said they were held up in the registration queue.
Firearm haul
B>n Five containers, with explosives and AK-series firearms, were seized at Calcutta port on Thursday. The containers, from Dar-es-Salaam, were sent by Nepal for the UN peacekeeping force in Tanzania. The consignment was rejected there and sent back to Nepal via Calcutta port.
