Summer fun

Hey friends, calcutta is buzzing with activities this summer and there are some really innovative ways of how you can beat the scorching heat. So without further ado, get involved before you lose out on these wonderfully creative experiences. There will be a workshop at STARMARK, 3 Lord Sinha Road, on clay modelling, shola (pith) handicraft, puppet making, mask making and toy making with waste materials for children aged between six and 12 years from May 29 to June 2, 2007 between 10.30 am and 12.30 pm. The registration fee for participants is Rs 100 for each day and Rs 400 for the entire five-day workshop. The workshop will be conducted by sculptor Kaushik Biswas, known for his innovative and experimental works with wood. For more details contact Arundhati Gupta at 2461 9551 or 9830167506.

Play acting: A month-long residential theatre workshop, organised by the Indian Mime Theatre, is being held at the State Youth Hostel, Salt Lake Stadium, from May 17 to June 15. This effort is the very first of its kind in Calcutta and those of you who are really keen can call 2329 8297 or 9433327657 for more details.

Abracadabra: There’s great news for all of you who love Harry Potter and aspire to be like him. The Society of Amateur Magicians is hosting a two-day magic workshop on May 26 and 27 from 4 pm to 7 pm at Salt Lake. The registration fee for participation for both days is Rs 100 and the participants will be handed out attractive goodies, including magic books and magic folders. For more details, get in touch with magician Shyamal Kumar at 2321 6734.

With all these exciting activities lined up, there’s no reason why you should complain about a boring and an uneventful summer ahead. Have a good time.
