I am a Class XII student. I want to pursue mechatronics engineering from a recognised university in New Zealand, Australia, Japan or the UK. Please let me know about the eligibility criteria and the fees.

For most courses and institutions in New Zealand, international students are required to take the IELTS. Most institutes ask for a minimum score of 6.5 in the exam. Some universities and colleges also accept TOEFL scores instead of IELTS scores. Aspiring students need a minimum score of 75 per cent aggregate and a minimum of 60 per cent in English in their qualifying examination. In case the criteria are not met, the candidate is usually required to complete a foundation course from a university in New Zealand. The fee for the mechatronics course may vary between 14,000 New Zealand dollars and 18,000 New Zealand dollars per year.

To be eligible for admission in an Australian university, you need to have studied “pre-requisite subjects”, besides having a good IELTS or TOEFL score. If you want to study engineering, you need to have studied advanced mathematics or calculus or any other subject as specified by the university of your choice. Annual tuition fees vary from 11,000 Australian dollars to 17,000 Australian dollars.

For institutes in the UK, you need an outstanding result in CBSE, ICSE or equivalent. The specific requirements of universities can be found in their prospectus, which are usually available with the Education Counselling Service, located in British Council offices or libraries. The average course fees should be between £8500 and £10,500 per annum.

If you want to study in Japan, you will need to appear for the EJU, which is a test carried out by the Japan Student Services Organization (JASSO) to evaluate whether foreign students possess the necessary Japanese language skills and basic academic abilities to study at Japanese universities. Many universities also require you to take a test that may include questions on mathematics, physical science, chemistry and English. A good university charges around „535,800 per annum as tuition fees, „282,000 as admission fees, and „17,000 as entrance exam fee.

The above requirements and fees are indicative only. Refer to the websites of universities of your choice for specific details.
