The Indian Institute of Rural Management (IIRM) is engaged in education, research and consultancy in the area of management and rural development. The Faculty of Management Studies was established in 1992-93 to impart quality education in management in general and for the promotion of rural management in particular.

FMS-IIRM conducts the postgraduate diploma in business management (PGDBM) on the lines of similar programmes offered by the IIMs. PGDBM students can specialise in marketing, human resource management, finance, international business or rural marketing and rural development.

The application form can be obtained along with the prospectus and information bulletin from the IIRM office on payment of Rs 800 in cash or by demand draft drawn in favour of Indian Institute of Rural Management payable at Jaipur. Postal requests must be accompanied by a demand draft worth Rs 850 and should be sent to the Indian Institute of Rural Management, IIRM Campus, Tagore Marg, Mansarovar, Jaipur-302020. You can also download the application form from the website (www.iirm.ac.in).

Eligibility

Graduation in any discipline with not less than 50 per cent marks in aggregate. Final year students may also apply.

Entrance exam

Candidates have to clear either AIMS Test for Management Admissions (ATMA) or MAT (Management Aptitude Test). The MAT (600) or ATMA (80 per cent) score must be enclosed with the form.

Pattern of exam

MAT is usually conducted four times a year — in January, May, September and December. The test consists of objective-type questions in language comprehension, mathematical skills, data analysis and sufficiency, critical reasoning and Indian and global environment.

How to prepare

The section on data interpretation generally has questions based on bar charts, line curves, text blocks or pie charts. Questions mainly involve percentage computation. To tackle this section, go through Test of Reasoning by R.S. Agarwal, How to Prepare for GMAT by Tata McGraw Hill publishers, and reasoning books by Edgar Thorpe. Also, keep abreast of current affairs. It is essential that you start preparing well in advance. You can try and solve previous years’ question papers. Time yourself when you attempt these papers so that you get used to solving the problems fast.
