Repairs to hit power supply

Power supply to Beleghata is likely to be disrupted between 11am and 4pm on Friday because of repairs at the Talpukur distribution station. A CESC official said supply may be disrupted to the Narkeldanga Main Road, Raja RL Mitra Road, Beleghata Main Road, Chawlpatty Road, Abinash Banerjee Lane, Suren Sarkar Road, Ghari Bibi Lane, Shib Krishna Daw Lane, Barwaritolla and GD Park areas.

Body found floating

The decomposed body of Mohammad Sonu, 18, was found floating in the Hooghly on Thursday. Sonu, a resident of Jheel Road, in Cossipore, had been missing since May 22. He was drunk when he left home, police said.

Wall collapse

Three pedestrians were injured when the wall of a two-storey house, in Satkari Mitra Lane, Maniktala, collapsed on Thursday. The incident took place when a group of labourers were demolishing the building, police said. A search is on to track down those involved in the demolition work.

Flights cancelled

Flight services between Calcutta and Dhaka were cancelled on Thursday because of bad weather in the Bangladeshi capital. Calcutta airport officials said two flights of Biman Bangladesh and GMG Airlines were cancelled. GMG’s Bangkok-Dhaka flight was diverted to Calcutta.

House looted

A gang robbed cash and jewellery worth Rs 4 lakh from a three-storey house in Sunpur, Howrah, on Wednesday night. The robbers had locked the house-owner, Sisir Maji, and his family.
