Ireland remain champions

Calcutta: Ireland defeated Canada by an innings and 115 runs to retain the Intercontinental Cup (as reported in Thursday’s Late City edition).

Canadian batsmen let the side down after Umar Bhatti had taken a hattrick in the only Irish innings. The medium pacer won four lbw decisions in five balls, including three in a row. Ireland won the four-day first-class match at Grace Road inside two days.
