Formulae at your fingertips
Web Watch

There are some things in life that you would love to have at your fingertips. Among them are various formulae to brush up those basics in maths, algebra, calculus and all that you didn’t pay attention to in those boring classes. This becomes all the more important if you are eager to make it to the hallowed portals of the IIMs or even better, want to ace GRE or GMAT for your ticket abroad. Now you have an entire website which offers to strengthen your basics and much more. Just browse through http://dmoz.org/Science/Math/desc.html and you will be a happy person. The website sports a very non-jazzy colour combination of white and blue. If your main aim is to get information, and oodles of it, then http://dmoz .org/Science/ Math/desc.html won’t disappoint. The top of the page tells you what you can find there — maths and science. The maths page is pretty exhaustive and has several sections like algebra, calculus, chaos and fractals, combinatorics (Never heard of it? Don’t worry, you can read all about it here), differential equations among others. When you click on any of these sub-sections mentioned, you can access more information on that topic. For example, under combinatorics, you have categories like events, journals, open problems, people working in the field, software and research groups. The site also gives you access to other topics of interest under combinatorics and is also available in Russian and German. It tells you about events in the field of maths, and lists employment opportunities, organisations and directories for anything related to maths.

So all you geeks and non-geeks out there, log in and take your fill of a numerical world.
