Jayanta, Rahul shine on Day I

Calcutta: Tata Archery Academy (TAA) duo Rahul Banerjee and Jayanta Talukdar clinched day one honours after the first Fita qualifying round in the men’s recurve section of the third National ranking prize money tournament at the SAI, Eastern Centre on Tuesday.

Logging 1,345 points, Banerjee was the sole leader followed by Talukdar who scored 1334 points. Banerjee and Talukdar, who represent the Steel Plant Sports Board (SPSB), incidentally edged out country’s No. 1 archer Tarundeep Rai.

The women’s recurve section saw the emergence of Nagaland’s veteran Chekrovolu Swuro to the fore pushing hot favourite Dola Banerjee to the second place.

After the second Fita qualifying round on Wednesday, the archers will be ranked to play each other in two Olympic rounds on Thursday.
