Guide to top colleges
Web Watch

It’s that time of the year when tempers run high as you keep puzzling over whether the course or the college should take precedence and yet the right answer evades you. At times like these, you wish you had a genie at your command to make the right choices and set you on the path to success. It’s now possible for there is a website that substitutes as a genie and gives a lowdown on top colleges.

The site, http://www.indiaedu.com, is not the best that you would come across in terms of design; but it more than compensates by giving exhaustive information. Information is categorised under various sub-sections — there is a “top section”, which features top arts colleges and law schools; colleges are also listed according to the city; there’s a section on college admissions based on subjects, like medical, etc. The last section mentioned also gives out cut-off percentages, fees and seats available per department. However there are a few glaring mistakes in this “across-the-cities” list. For instance, Lady Shri Ram College for Women is given a miss in the arts section. So it’s advisable to stick to the city-wise lists.

What’s often missing in such websites is a section on educational loans but www.indiaedu.com rectifies this. Allahabad Bank, Bank of Baroda and others are mentioned at length. Also, courses in yoga, hair styling, brand management and other such hip fields are listed. This is the most exhaustive section in the whole website and is encouraging for those who don’t have the grades to make the cut for conventional courses. Information on distance learning courses and various entrance exams is also provided.

So what are you waiting for? Shrug off those admission worries and just log on.
