I am a first year student of BMus (vocal). I want to do my postgraduation from Trinity College of Music, London. Which exams do I have to clear for that? Also, let me know about the preparation needed to clear the live audition. Are there any scholarships that I could avail of?

A good result in BMus (honours) or equivalent and a recognised performer’s diploma are the entry requirements for the Trinity School of Music. You have to apply through the Conservatoire UK Admissions System (CUKAS). Visit http://www. cukas.ac.uk for application details.

Candidates are selected on the basis of their performance in a 45-minute audition. They also have to submit a write-up of at least 3,000 words, which need not be on a music-related topic but should demonstrate an understanding of basic bibliographic and footnote conventions.

Applicants have to perform a range of contrasting and demanding pieces (to display their range) during the first 20 minutes of the audition. There are specific rules for the number of accompanists one is allowed and candidates have to stick to them. Applicants are then asked questions on their performance during the audition as well as their academic submission. They also have to take a 30-minute written test that examines their musical knowledge. Present or past students of Trinity can help you to grasp the finer details. The Net can help you get in touch with them.

Trinity Laban awards a range of scholarships and bursaries based on performance and financial need.
