Paes-Damm in Halle semis

New Delhi: India’s Leander Paes and Martin Damm of Czech Republic beat German wildcards Benjamin Becker and Christopher Kas to enter the semi-finals of the Gerry Webber Open in Halle.

The Indo-Czech pair rallied from a set down to beat the local favourites 6-7 (8), 7-6 (10), 10-7 on Thursday.

Paes and Damm will now take on third seeds Simon Aspelin of Sweden and Julian Knowles of Austria in the last-four stage of the euros 680,250 event. Paes and Damm had scored a 6-4, 6-2 win over the Swiss-German pair of Yves Allegro and Michael Kohlmann in the opening round.

In singles, Russian second seed Nikolay Davydenko fell to Germany’s Florian Mayer 6-4, 6-4 in the second round.

Sixth seed Mikhail Youzhny was forced to pull out with a back injury 24 hours before his scheduled quarter final against Tomas Berdych. (AGENCIES)
