The Symbiosis Institute of Design (SID) offers a four-year bachelor of design (BDes) degree in communication design, fashion design and product design. The curriculum offers an optimum mix of traditional design skills, new design skills (with state-of-the-art software) and soft skills. Students are evaluated on the basis of daily performance and live projects. SID has a design cell, which provides consultancy and training to companies. Here professionals, faculty and students work together on live projects.
Eligibility
Candidates should have passed 10+2 (any stream) with
a minimum of 50 per cent.
Entrance exam
The entrance exam is held in the first week of May
in 13 cities. Foreign candidates do not need to take SET.
In their case, admission decisions will be based on their
portfolios.
Pattern of exam
The SET design aptitude test has three sections —
English, quantitative ability and design aptitude. The English
section has 25 questions (one mark each) and tests comprehension,
vocabulary, grammar, syntax and the correct use of language.
Twenty-five questions (of one mark each) in the quantitative
section are a mix of arithmetic, algebra and geometry of
Class X level. The section on design aptitude (worth 100
marks) tests an applicant’s creativity, drawing skill and
visualisation skill.
How to prepare
To ace the design aptitude test, candidates need to
be creative. They should have the ability to visualise (especially
in terms of 2D and 3D) as well as to draw. One should also
learn the basics of calligraphy. Consulting the NIFT and
NID guide books on design aptitude would be helpful.
