Philander shines in Proteas’ win

Belfast: South Africa warmed up for a three-match ODI series against India in Belfast with an easy 42-run victory over Ireland on Sunday.

The match started five hours late because of rain, leaving South Africa to score 173 for four in 31 overs. Ireland were all out for 131.

South Africa gave ODI debuts to Vernon Philander and Thandi Tshabalala.

Philander dismissed William Porterfield and Niall ’Brien for just seven runs in four overs and returned to take two more to finish with four for 12 in 5.5 overs. It was the second-best figures by a South African on debut.
