Calling the wild

Tring tring is out of date. Forest officials in Gujarat have found some rather unique ring tones that are serving them a very important purpose. They are now using their mobile phones to lure leopards back into the forest. These leopards wander off into human settlements in search of food. The ring tones mimic the sound of cows mooing, goats bleating and roosters crowing. Instead of using live goats as a bait, officials say that these novel ringtones are a much better way of tracking the missing leopards. D. Vasan, a senior forest official in Gujarat says that so far five leopards have been brought back into the woods by using this method.

Dancing to fitness

Dance lessons will be made compulsory for elementary and secondary students in China from September 1 this year. The China Daily reports that this initiative is being taken to ward off the harmful effects of lack of physical activity that has lead to obesity and ill health among Chinese students. Last month, the official Xinghua News reported that students will have to prove their physical fitness to be able to secure admission to Chinese higher educational institutions.
