Storyteller’s art

The bachelors course in mass communication and videography offered by St Xaviers College, Calcutta, is a three-year vocational course. The college doesn’t ensure placement but gives students the opportunity, through projects, to interact with media professionals.

Application forms are available online (www.sxccal.edu) after the publication of Class XII results. Candidates will have to pay Rs 175 as application fee.

Eligibility

Candidates should have passed HS, or an equivalent exam, with minimum 60 per cent and at least five recognised subjects, one of which should be English.

Entrance exam

It is held in the second week of June.

Pattern of exam

The exam is two hours long and tests English comprehension, general and media awareness, and imagination.

How to prepare

The exam tests students’ talent and aptitude in communication. Successful candidates usually have strong creative and communicative skills. Candidates must read magazines, books and newspapers regularly to improve their English. They should watch news channels as well as TV programmes and films with social theme. They can consult the Manorama Year Book, the CSR Year Book and the Spectrum guide on culture.
